ESOC 2025 is honored to be the host of several award ceremonies. Read about each award below.
EuChemS Division of Organic Chemistry Awards
Award for Research 2024 - Prof. Ilan Marek
Professor Ilan Marek is the recipient of the EuChemS Division of Organic Chemistry Award for Research 2024. Professor Marek’s research focuses on the development of new and efficient stereo- and enantioselective strategies for the synthesis of important complex molecular structures. He is particularly interested in developing carbon-carbon bond forming processes, which efficiently create multiple stereocentres in a single-pot operation. His deep understanding of reaction mechanisms has provided insight into the origins of chemo- and stereoselectivity observed, allowing for reaction optimisation towards the most efficient and general protocols for his methodologies. His publications are characterised by the challenging synthetic problems addressed, coupled with the efficient and elegant solutions developed. He is a deserving winner of the EuChemS Division of Organic Chemistry Award for Research 2024.

Young Investigator Award 2024 - Dr. Aurélien de la Torre
Dr. Aurélien de la Torre from the Institut de Chimie Moléculaire et des Matériaux d’Orsay in France has been chosen as the recipient of the Young Investigator Award for 2024 for his work on the total synthesis of natural products and the development of synthetic methodologies involving cascade reactions, rearrangements and cycloadditions

Award for Service 2024 - Prof. Berit Olofsson
Professor Berit Olofsson is the recipient of the EuChemS Division of Organic Chemistry Award for Service 2024. Professor Olofsson is an internationally recognised researcher in synthetic organic chemistry. She was awarded the Arrhenius Plaque by the Swedish Chemical Society in 2021 for her contributions to research. In addition to her research, Professor Olofsson has contributed significantly to a series of positions of trust in European committees, most notably as Secretary and vice-chair of the EuChemS Division of Organic Chemistry (2018-2022) and she is currently the President of the International Scientific Committee of the European Symposium on Organic Chemistry since 2023. Furthermore, she was elected as a member of Angewandte Chemie’s international advisory board in 2020 and the Chem advisory board in 2023. A true ‘European’ chemist, Professor Olofsson is a deserving recipient of the EuChemS Division of Organic Chemistry Award for Service 2024.

Patai-Rappoport Lecture Award 2025 - Prof. Eric Jacobsen
The winner of the 2025 Patai-Rappoport award is Professor Eric Jacobsen.
The Patai - Rappoport Lecture celebrates the vision of Saul Patai and Zvi Rappoport in creating and advancing the book series The Chemistry of Functional Groups, providing chemists with a highly valuable tool for advancing their research. Founded in 1964, the series has grown to over 150 volumes with 1750 chapters on a wide range of functional groups and compound classes, contributed by expert authors from more than 50 countries. The current chief editor of the series is Professor Ilan Marek. The Patai – Rappoport Lecture is supported by John Wiley & Sons.
Dr. Margaret Faul Women in Chemistry Award 2025 - Prof. Franziska Schoenebeck and Dr. Dani Schultz
Thieme and the Editors of Science of Synthesis are delighted to announce the Dr. Margaret Faul Women in Chemistry Award Winners 2025. This year, for the first time, the award selection committee selected one candidate from academia and one candidate from industry to receive the Women in Chemistry Award.
Prof. Franziska Schoenebeck (RWTH Aachen University, Germany) and Dr. Dani Schultz (Merck & Co., NJ, USA) were elected to be the 2025 recipients of the awards in recognition of the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of their research in addition to their broader contributions to synthetic organic chemistry.
